Who Is Your Father?

Passage: John 8:39-47
Service Type:

In this worship service, Pastor Grant Gilliam continues his sermon series, "John - The Soul of the Savior," with this message entitled "Who Is Your Father?" The sermon text is John 8:39-47.

Sermon Notes:

Jesus is not naive. He knows who is and who is not a part of the family of God.

Ask yourself: Am I a child of God? And am I living out my identity as a child of God?

Being a child of God means that we are radically changed by God's Grace and:

  • We listen to God - there has to be a spiritual change - true sonship listens to and obeys God and seeks to apply God's word to life.
  • We love Jesus - We are for Him, not against Him. We understand that Jesus is a gift from God. We love Him because He first loved us.
  • We look like our Father - We live out our identity as His children. We want to imitate Him. Adopted children don't necessarily resemble their parents. But whoever is born of God, not only bears his Father's name, but also His image. This is done through time through the work of the Holy Spirit. We bear God's family traits.
