A ‘Mic Drop’ I AM Statement
In this worship service, Pastor Grant Gilliam continues his sermon series, "John - The Soul of the Savior," with this message entitled "A 'Mic Drop' I AM Statement." The sermon text is John 8:48-59.
Sermon Notes:
In this passage, there are three glimpses of Jesus' Glory to stir our hearts.
- Jesus is the longed-for Savior - the Jews, who claimed Abraham as their father, tried to slander Jesus by making personal attacks. But Jesus points out that Abraham looked forward by faith to Jesus' time and sacrifice.
- Jesus is the Living Savior - Jesus' "I AM" statement is a mic drop statement, referring to the "I AM" statement made by God when he appeared to Moses in the burning bush. "I AM has sent me to you." (Exodus 3:14) He is the eternal, covenant-making God, and He has always existed.
- Jesus is the Loving Savior - the Jews' response, "This is blasphemy." They were passing judgment on him before a trial, which the law required them to hold. They proceeded to try to stone Him. However, it is Jesus who has the right to judge and cast the first stone at those who oppose Him (including us). But He loves us so much that He took our punishment on the cross so that everyone who believes in Him can live with Him forever.
Are we captivated by Him? Are our hearts stirred by who He is?
