Here Comes That Dreamer
We continue the story of Jacob’s life of full of troubles, but in which God’s grace would quietly and finally prevail. But today skipping over many of his troubles once he was reconciled with his brother Esau and living in Canaan. Among the most grievous of those troubles was the supposed loss of his most-loved son Joseph, which turns out into a beautiful story of forgiveness and reconciliation. Perhaps no OT story so clearly foreshadows the way Jesus’ betrayal and suffering ultimately saves us all. Plot/Tension, Development, Resolution, each part brimming with grace and hope. Today we focus on the root of the tension, stepping into the story as 17-year-old Joseph has been sent by his father to “check” on the brothers pasturing the sheep far from home. Seeing him coming from afar they sneer, “Here comes this dreamer!” They didn’t mean it kindly. What was going on in that family? What dreams? What provocation? What relevance to the dreams of our lives?
