A Glimpse of Eternity
A preacher whose services tended toward the gloomy, academic, and negative often reminded his congregation, “Our worship services are a foretaste of heaven.” My unchristian response was usually, “Oh, I hope not!” One might easily have thought, “If this is what eternal bliss is like, I don’t look forward to it.” A far more accurate and inviting view of heaven is expressed in this Psalm 148, which gives a true glimpse of eternity, one that is both dynamic and appealing. As we have studied creation psalms showing how God reveals Himself in what He has made, the common denominator in each one is that we, and all creation, are called to worship Him. This psalm is at the apex of 5 grand-finale psalms closing the psalter with the high praises of God. God is to be praised from the heavens, from the earth, and especially from His people. (Outer ring of the heavens, Middle from the earth, Inner core from His people.)
