Words of Eternal Life: No Other Alternatives!

Sermon Notes:

Jesus disciples find themselves at a crossroads of faith, the same crossroads of faith that we face in our walk as Christians.

Will we trust Him at those crossroads of faith in our lives? At the crossroads of obedience? Will we follow the Lord when it's hard, when it is unpopular?

What we find at the Crossroads:

A) Symptoms of an unbelieving heart at the Crossroads of faith: being offended by God's truth and walking away, rather than wrestling with it and trying to understand. Rather than walking away, believers need to pray about the truths they wrestle with and ask God to help them understand and increase their faith. Believers need to ask God for boldness when faced with opposition.

B) Signs of a believing heart at the Crossroads of faith: Peter's response in verse 68 - "Lord, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life. Where else would we go?" Believers choose God at any crossroads they face.

C) Signs of a Savior's heart at the Crossroads of faith: Jesus was facing the social suffering of rejection, and yet He went forward with what He was sent to do. He faced rejection by the Father in our place to secure forgiveness and eternal life for us. Why? Because He loves the Father and He loves us. 1) We see Jesus' Heart of Love to embrace suffering; 2) We know that Jesus can sympathize with us in our suffering; 3) And Jesus calls us to suffer well.
