The Last Straw
We come finally to the last of the speeches before the Lord speaks, and this newcomer Elihu gets 6 chapters. He must be really important. Is his long speech part of Job’s trials, or is it a refreshing breeze of grace? Is this the last straw, the last of the trials, and is the one that will “break the camel’s back”—break Job’s firm resolve to wait on the Lord to speak? Alternately, is Elihu really revealing the grace of God to Job? As we go through several readings from this speech, you decide. Job’s trials began with great grief, loss and pain and became increasingly subtle as the drama proceeds. We will read selections where Elihu tells us about Elihu, about Job, and about the Lord.
