Our Eternal Dwelling
We continue our study highlighting the introductory sections to each of the 5 Books into which the collection of Psalms is organized. Today we introduce Book IV with Psalms 90 & 91. This time, the first is of a corporate nature, the second personal. Bk IV begins the rise from the low curve of the Psalm trajectory with its emphasis on the movement from devastation toward glory, confirming God’s care for His people and their security in His saving purpose. Both introductory psalms emphasize the promise of long life, even eternal life. (90:1 & 91:16). We will focus on Ps. 90, though on the website will post notes from a message on Ps. 91 we heard in 2020 during the pandemic. [READ Ps. 90]
This week MJ and I were invited to take part in a home dedication, to pray God’s blessing as our friends occupied a newly purchased house. What is it that makes a house a home? Surely it is not the building, the location, or any of its material properties. Rather, it is the relationships among the people who dwell in it. Our friends with their 3 little children love Jesus and want their home to be a place where He is honored, where their children feel the security of the presence of Jesus, a place where others can come and experience the peace and joy of fellowship in Christ. HGTV shows offer people their dream “forever” homes, really houses that will need updating and be sold, long before any forever. But we all do long for homes of peace and security that do last forever, which is exactly what God offers us and in love to which He draws us.
