In the Eye of the Storm

Speaker:
Passage: Isaiah 39:1-39
Service Type:

Aware of the awful destructive power of hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria.  Checking the weather map to see where the storm was relative to my brother in the US Virgin Islands, I saw the rotating “donut” with the eye right over where my brother was.  What’s it like to be in the eye of a storm?  Terrible 195 mph winds have whipped through your island, and a lull is welcome; but you know now what is still to come.  In these 4 “bridge” chapters in Isaiah, we see good King Hezekiah surrounded by storm clouds.  Constant wars with the threat of the “big one” (Assyria), Hezekiah’s terminal sickness, and now we hear that even bigger trouble with Babylon is in the sure future.  In our day, we are surrounded with trouble: nuclear war, terrorism, internal world-view conflicts, economic instability, health concerns, etc.  QUESTION: How do we live faithfully in the knowledge of sure and impending judgment (catastrophe)?
