Evidence That Demands A Verdict

Speaker:
Passage: I John 5:1-12
Service Type:

Today’s title is taken from a book published back in the ‘70s, by Campus Crusade (now Cru) lecturer Josh McDowell on the evidences for the truth of Christianity.  As we’ve been working through 1 John, we’ve seen it is written to give us confident assurance of our security in the circle of God’s love.  What are the evidences that we are truly alive in God’s love? What is the evidence of the truth of God’s love for us?

John began this letter reminding us of the joy that we have in the circle of God’s love.  We’ve been exhorted to stand firm in the love of God, not being drawn back into the spiral of death by personal sin, by the seduction of the world, and the deceit of the devil.  Now as John pulls together the threads of his message, he exhorts us, “Believers, know (confidently) that you have eternal life!” How can you know that you are eternally alive, especially when you feel very mortal?  You can pinch yourself to know you are awake, but what are the tangible spiritual evidences of life?
